Our mission is to proactively search out the dogs who can’t search for help themselves. In addition, we offer educational youth programs to encourage animal compassion and advocacy in their everyday lives.

Rescuing Dogs. Strengthening our Community
At Ruff Start STX, our work goes beyond rescue. While we provide care and rehabilitation for dogs in need, we also work to prevent homelessness through free vaccine clinics, spay/neuter assistance, humane education, and resources for pet owners. By supporting both animals and the people who care for them, we're building a stronger, more compassionate community.
When you adopt from Ruff Start STX, you're giving a deserving dog a second chance at a loving home. We carefully match each dog with the right family to help ensure a successful adoption. While we're based on St. Croix, we can assist with arranging transportation to anywhere in the United States, making it possible for the right dog to find the right home—no matter the distance.
Fostering gives dogs a safe, stable place to heal while they wait for their forever home. Many of the dogs we rescue have experienced neglect, abandonment, or little positive human interaction. By opening your home, you give them the chance to recover, build confidence, learn what it's like to be part of a family, and prepare for a successful adoption. Even a short-term foster can change a dog's future.
